Fulham

Fulham: football, the river and a palace

Fulham’s a proper football corner of London. It’s the only part of town where you’ll find two Premier League grounds within a short walk of each other. Stamford Bridge, Chelsea FC’s home, sits on Fulham Road, while Fulham FC play at Craven Cottage, right on the riverbank by Bishop’s Park. On a match day the whole area buzzes, and the pubs fill up well before kick-off.

There’s lots more to Fulham than football, though. Fulham Palace, the old country home of the Bishops of London, is open daily and free to visit. You can wander its historic rooms, the walled garden and the grounds, then grab a coffee and carry on along the Thames Path. Bishop’s Park next door is great for a lazy afternoon, especially with kids in tow.

Further along the river, the Hurlingham Club’s grand grounds host some well-known sporting and social events through the year. It’s a private members’ club, so keep an eye on what’s open to the public. Back on the high streets, Fulham Road, New King’s Road and Parsons Green have a good mix of independent shops, neighbourhood restaurants and pubs with beer gardens.

Fulham’s also handy for gigs. The Eventim Apollo is just up the road in Hammersmith, hosting comedy, film-with-orchestra nights and big-name bands. Putney Bridge, Parsons Green and Fulham Broadway stations make it easy to get around, and the District line will have you back in central London in no time.

We’ll keep adding what’s on in and around Fulham, so check back before match day or a night out.
